Tomorrow we finish the journey back to the U.S.!
We’ve been at Helimission headquarters in Switzerland for 5 days and during that time we’ve had debrief meetings, visited friends and co-workers, and went to church and had meals with Helimission founders, Ernie and Hedi Tanner. It’s been a wonderful way to wrap up this season of working full-time with Helimission.
Some great news is that we are not finished working with Helimission! It was established during the meetings that we will continue to serve in at least two functions; one, as HM Advocates, representing the organization at missions and aviation conferences and seminars and two, Michael will keep the Disaster Relief Coordinator position. This is very exciting for us!
Before we left Papua, we also had a meeting with a missionary who has lived there for decades and is the one responsible for working with the local government to send Papuan students to universities around the world, including the one 45 minutes away from where we live! He was happy to hear that we have already met the students near us, and that we want to stay as involved as possible with them and with Papua. Introductions via email are being made, and we are excited to see what the Lord will do!
It’s been a very eventful two months and we are beyond grateful that the Lord allowed us to do some more work in Papua (see pics below) and have good closure for this season. Please continue to pray for our kiddos during this transition. Pre-teen/teen years are tricky to begin with, right?!
Here’s a little of what we’ve been up to lately:
We had the privilege of taking the Jesus Film into a friend’s village. Kalem and Adria even got up and spoke to the young people of the village, giving them words of encouragement about how they are loved and God has a plan for their lives.
The last thing we did before leaving Papua was have a three day campout adventure to the beach with our teammates. It was fun and challenging and the perfect way to say “see ya later” to this crazy and wonderful bunch of people. We rented a dump truck, threw in all our stuff, and headed to the docks an hour away where we then rented three boats, threw in our stuff, and headed to a beach about a 40 minute ride away.
We even hiked into the jungle and took showers in a waterfall!
Along the way, we also had interactions with local and expat friends which will stay in our memories forever.
Switzerland has been a joy to visit each time we’ve come here, and this time hasn’t disappointed. It’s calendar-picture-beautiful everywhere you look and the people (and livestock) are very friendly. 🙂 Our Swiss co-workers are home on furlough to have their baby so we spent time with them. It was so good to see them after almost a year! We also took a gondola to the top of a mountain near us and it was 45* and foggy – on August 4th!
We’re sad and frustrated to have to leave Papua. But we trust the Lord, and feel His tangible peace upon us. Thank-you dear ones for all your love and prayers and for being you. We love you!
See you tomorrow, USA!
