We’ve been so busy the last few weeks we haven’t had time to write but we’re headed out to a village today and wanted to catch you up to date and ask you to pray for a couple things before we go.
It’s been one month since we left the US and we’ve been moving quickly ever since. Michael’s mom, Mary Kaye came back with us and got to stay with us for two weeks in Wamena. We had a lot of fun and we put her to work here and there helping us to sort things for our upcoming move. And she only got sick a little bit, praise the Lord! It was an incredible blessing to have here with us.
Michael is currently training a couple of other pilots for external load operations, which is one of his favorite things to do in a helicopter, and also something very useful here in the jungle. Please continue to pray for safety for all the pilots in this place – there was an mission organization airplane crash just a week ago that killed all 5 people aboard no too far out of Wamena. This really is the most dangerous place in the world to fly, and the pilots and passengers all need God’s protection in a very real way!
Would you also please pray for the families and co-workers of those killed in that crash?
We’ve been steadily getting rid of most of our household goods and packing up what we plan to bring back with us. It’s always a little overwhelming to move, but moving from a foreign country can be quite challenging! God has continuously been very present and helping us to make the right connections to sell things.
One last big thing we need to sell is our car. We had a buyer but they had to change their minds because of an uncertain visa situation. Would you please pray that God will bring just the right buyer at just the right time for just the right price?
One of the biggest blessings of coming back here for these couple of months is to be able to say good-bye to our friends and co-workers here. We’ve been spending a lot of time with as many people as we can, and are loving every minute of it. Even though it’s sad at times, we are all comforted in knowing that we get to spend eternity together!
Kalem and Adria have been having a lot of fun living life again here in Papua. Seeing their friends, riding around town in the back of a pickup, eating tropical fruit, and running around the yard with local friends has brought many smiles to their faces.
We also were invited to go to “gereja kampung (village church)” with our dear friends and co-workers, Matt and Amanda, where Matt preached in Indonesian! It was so special and he did a great job preaching about the woman from Samaria and Jesus, the Jew. That’s a tough subject here, as there are deep prejudices between tribes that lead to constant conflict. It was a great blessing to worship and pray with these dear people.
Today – we are headed in the helicopter to a village to show the Jesus Film. Even the kids get to go! This village had a missionary decades ago, but has not had anyone visit with the gospel for a very long time, and in general, do not know Jesus yet. One of our friends who was also Michael’s language tutor here in Wamena is from this village and loves Jesus deeply. He wants his people to come to know salvation in what Christ has done for them, too.
Would you please pray today and tomorrow that God would do a mighty work in this “suku” (tribe) and bring many close to His heart? Also, please pray for good weather and that all the film equipment will work well.
When we get back, we’ll share more of what God has done there!
We love you dear friends and partners! May God bless you!
Michael, Fawn, Kalem, Adria
