First off, a word from Adria…she’s been anxious to write to you!
Wamena! We finally made it. We have officially moved up to Wamena. This is very exciting for me and my family because after all of the packing, unpacking, packing again, moving and airplane rides, we finally made it!
Lately I have been playing with the neighbor kids, Karis and Noah, and their dog, Natasha, and painting my room and preparing to make this my home.
Since moving from Sentani, nothing much exciting has happened except opening our shipment which was like Christmas for all of us. We are all trying to make friends and succeeding. There are some creepy things here too, like dinner-plate sized spiders, giant locusts, and gigantic deer-eating lizards (but the lizards do not live on this island, thankfully).
So that is life in Wamena. Wamena is probably the best place I could ever live.
Terima Kasih/Thank You!
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will abide in shadow of the Almighty, I will say to the Lord my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.”
Now, from mom and dad.
We’re all liking very much living in Wamena and being settled. It will take some getting to used to, that’s for sure.
We have been unpacking and setting up home and figuring out where to shop for food. There’s no Super Walmart here!
Some of you asked about how we get water in our house, and many of you have been praying for rain in our valley and surrounding mountains. Thank-you! The Lord is good! He has answered with showers over the last few weeks. So now, we have water at our house again!
There are no city water systems here. This is how we get water into our house:
Also, we wanted to let you know we had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration with our Helimission team here with roasted chickens and mashed potatoes and all the trimmings. We are very thankful to be here and for what God is doing in each of us.
Next, we celebrate Michael’s birthday in mid-December, then Christmas!
Things to be praying for:
- Helimission has an audit by the government coming up soon. There’s always room for the enemy to make trouble here. Please pray that all will go well!
- Please pray for health for all of us. Kalem is currently sick, and the rest of us feel it a bit, too. It’s somewhat normal coming back and forth overseas, but we are asking the Lord to keep us from getting really ill.
- Close friends for all of us, and a dog that will guard our home well but be sweet and loving, too!
Thank-you dear friends and family!
Overjoyed to be your partners in Papua,
The Stephens Family
